National Pension Scheme (NPS)

Voluntary retirement scheme. Regulated by PFRDA

For Resident & Non-resident Indians. Employers, Employees and Self-employed alike

NPS Eligibility Criteria

Indian citizen

Any Indian citizen, including NRI and OCI can subscribe

Aged 18+ years

Subscriber should be of age 18 to 70 years when opening PRAN

Compliant with KYC

Subscriber should have valid PAN, Aadhar, Bank account in India

NPS Investment Choices

Subscribers can invest in four asset classes with NPS

Class 'E'

Equity and Equity-related instruments

Class 'G'

Government bonds and government-backed securities

Class 'C'

Corporate debt and related instruments

Class 'A'

Alternative investments like REITs, InvITs, Commercial Papers

Any subscriber has two investment choices with NPS

Under this, subscriber has the flexibility to invest & divide their pension wealth across above 4 classes, with some rules to follow, like:

  • Class 'A' contribution cannot be more than 5%

  • Class 'E' contribution cannot be more than 75%

NPS Charges

One-time PRAN generation fee of ₹400

Every-time contribution charge of 0.3% (Minimum ₹30)

 

Persistency charges of ₹50 to ₹100 every year
